Using my XBOX 360 with HDMI on DVI HDTV?

I just got a Xbox 360 with an HDMI port, I have a 55″ HDTV with only a DVI input, I bought an HDMI to DVI cable so I could take advantage of the digital video from the 360, and on my tv I am getting a screen that says “no signal or out of range” I have tried 2 cables, nothing, what am I doing wrong? I dont see why it shouldnt work.

Do I need to buy the official xbox 360 hdmi cable and get an adaptor?

  1. Make sure the switch on the cable is in the right setting for your TV. My GUESS is that it came like my cable with HDTV and TV and was in the TV position. Try switching it to the HDTV setting. Or if your cable came in the HDTV position try TV.

  2. Did you check to see if the switch is on HD TV and not regular TV? On the 360 end of the video cable there’s a little switch there. Switch it to HD.
