My 40G stopped reading the disc’s. I won this so don’t have a receipt. Has anyone ever heard of fixing this problem without sending it in to Sony?

  1. Unless you are able to replace a Blu-ray drive yourself I don’t think it’s possible. When did you get your PS3 and did you register it. If so you can use the registration to prove it’s still under warranty and have Sony fix the problem. The only thing you might be able to try is a CD-DVD laser lens cleaner as the laser might just be dirty and see if that helps, if it doesn’t then your Blu-Ray drive has failed and Sony needs to repair it.

  2. never had one!

and as my ps3 is one of the original 7 million 60 gig units i am never likely to get a problem with it (apart from maybe a dirty lens-and if you can’t cure that then you have no business owning such a machine!-so try sticking a lens cleaner in it)

it cost me a kings ransom at the time (£600 with two games) but 18 months later it is still doing what it says on the tin long after others have fallen by the wayside.
