  1. No, you can’t get them for free, the only place you can download them is on PSN, if you did download them from somewhere else, they would not work on your PS3.

Some DLC for some games on PSN is for free, but not much.

Some is very cheap, and sometimes they have special offers, so keep an eye on the store, specially on thursdays in the evening after it has been updated.

You can go to the store, and type in “free” in the store search box, and a list of all the free stuff will show up, but most of it is demo’s, wallpapers and themes, but there is some game content too:)

  2. You can only get the downloadable content ( it’s not commonly known as Game packs by the way) only through the PlayStation Network on your PlayStation 3.

There is a way to share content with your friends so they don’t have to pay or vice versa.

    Here is a video:

    [url is not allowed].

It is not supported by Sony how ever.

  3. it really depends on the game. some games offer free add-ons, others you have to pay for.

some games even get sponsored free downloads. right now Reebok is sponsoring the new Madden 10 AFL legacy pack free for PS3 owners (i thinks its like 6.99 at the PS Store.) all you have to do is register for updates, which you can always turnaround and opt-out once they start sending you stuff. (details and links on kotaku.com)

There is also a new Sony site that is giving away the Norse mythology content pack for LittleBigPlanet. Details on on blog.us.playstation.com

earlier this summer Sprint sponsored free downloads for Ragdoll Kung Fu.

They also give away free video downloads for the PS store video section. Like the pilot for Showtime’s hit series Dexter was free sometime ago.

You just have to keep an eye out for this kind of stuff. It happens a lot, so check the playstation blog and other gaming sites for the latest.

    Sites i suggest are:

blog.us.playstation (sony’s official blog, so fresh news usually hits here first!)

http://www.kotaku.com (from what i’ve seen, this is where other sites get their info, they almost always link this as the source site.)

    http://www.ps3fanboy.com

    http://www.ps3.ign.com

    http://www.psxextreme.com

    http://www.n4g.com

http://www.g4tv.com (usually the last place to get info, but still is decent.)
