  1. FAT32 is just a file system, like NTFS, FAT, exFAT, the Mac system (forgot what that uses). So that’s all it is.

FAT stands for File Allocation Table.

For full information on exactly what it is and how it works, see here:

  2. a file system, HFS, NTFS, etc are all filesystems, and ps3 only supports FAT32 (and maybe HFS?) but anyway, you probably don’t want to know what it is, so much as you want to know how to format your jump drive to it. (WARNING: formatting erasing all data on the jump drive, so back it up first) go to my computer, left click on your jump drive and click format, then a window will pop up, choose FAT32 (might just say FAT, that will also work) and check quick format, then at the bottom click “ok”, “start”, “format” (i can’t remember what it says at the moment) and wait a few seconds, and it will be done. and your ps3 will now be able to read it. remember when you plug it in to the ps3 afterwards, you have to go to your jump drive, under music, videos, or photos, then hit triangle and display all in order for you to see whats on it.
