Connection problem while trying to connect to Xbox Live.?

I just bought an xbox 360 slim today and I tried to connect it to the internet and stuff.

When I search for available networks, it finds my connection, but when I test the connection, it gives me an error about my internet connection (it manages to connect to my modem/router though).

I have tried everything listed on the official support site but with no luck.

I restarted the router, waited for 30 secs, nothing.

I manually set the dns server. still nothing.

etc etc etc.

Note that I have a Belkin Router.

Can you please help me?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

  1. Reset the network setting on your 360 to default because that helped to me the last time i had the same problem.

  2. Belkin routers are for the mostpart very troublesome in my experience!

What error message is the xbox giving you when you do a network test?

If you are feeling up to it, you may need to forward some ports in your router.

Go to http://www.portforward.com for some easy-to-follow guides on how to do this, just select your router’s model name from the list and choose “xbox 360 live” for a guide on what you have to do.

If it all looks a bit too tech, check the local paper for a telephone line or network engineer, it will be a simple job for them and they charge a whole lot less than your ISP will!

    Good luck!

    EDIT –

Ah that’s unlucky. Are you trying to connect via ethernet cable or over wireless?

If you can first test it out using the cable then that would at least rule out any chance of it being the wireless settings.

Do you know the exact error the xbox console is giving you when you do a network test?

    EDIT 2 –

You may need to enter in your DNS settings manually. If you don’t know what they are, either your router should tell you somewhere in it’s menus, or you can always ring up your ISP and have them read them out to you.

    Try that and report back!
